A really sweet 3 year old

Hello fellow farmers!

We’ll be at the farm this weekend and looking forward to seeing all of you again.  We’ll be bringing a wonderful furry friend with us who we are fostering since she was dropped off at Petland where Kayla works.  If you’re interested in adopting a really sweet 3 year old dog (Ridgeback and Greyhound mix, with something else to make it smaller, maybe?), come by to meet her.

Creating A Climate for Change Bus Tour

The “Creating A Climate for Change Bus Tour” is coming to Indiana University Northwest, Wednesday, May 14, 2008, from Noon until 6:00 pm. This tour bus is powered by recycled vegetable oil (RVO), and solar power. This educational program on wheels provides an active, environmentally conscious way to learn about the outdoors and alternative energy. The bus will be located in the Main Parking Lot behind Savannah Center. An “Alternative Energies” talk will be held at 12:30 pm and again at 3:30 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Janice Elkins Art Exhibit

Janice Elkins will be exhibiting during the Michigan Art Attack weekend, May 2, 3 and 4. Her artwork will be displayed at Chef Diane Botica's place, "Dinner's Ready, Gourmet Shop, Catering and Bistro," 424 E. Buffalo Hwy (Hwy 12), New Buffalo, MI 49117 (269.469-1702). Earth Arbor Day is for Kids at Friendship Gardens

Come to the Gardens and hug a tree! And give a thundering welcome to the Garden’s "striking" new environmental sculpture that celebrates lightning. Earth Arbor Days will be celebrated April 26^th and 27^th at Friendship Gardens. The dedication of “Enlightningment: Upstroke Seeking” will take place Saturday, April 26^th at 2:00 PM. Artist Debra Sawyer explains that the thirty foot copper, steel and brass structure celebrates the mystery and history of lightning. Lightning finds its way into the mythology and religion of many cultures. Benjamin Franklin found that lightning occurs in that “electric” moment when positive charges from the earth meet negative charges from the sky. The sculpture salutes that meeting. Poet and drummer Tim Catching will lead youngsters and interested oldsters in making some musical thunder, along with Mitch Gregory, lightning lead guitarist of “Electric Fish”.

We are tying yellow ribbons around our favorite trees for a special tree hike through our woods and gardens, says Executive Director Marti Pizzini. Visitors will get a Tree Guide and can explore the grounds, matching trees to the Guide. “We have some very huggable trees!” There will be guided nature walks at 11:00 AM and 2:30 PM both days. An ecology information table will provide literature and a Master Gardener will be on hand to provide ideas and advice.  “This is also a great time to drop by and learn more about volunteering at the Gardens,” says Pizzini. “And bring your dog. They like trees.”

The Gardens will be open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday for this event. Admission is free. The Gardens are located on the far eastern side of Michigan City at 2055 east Highway 12. Call the office at 219-878-9885 for more information.
